STOUGHTON, MA, September 8, 2020 – As we continue to grow our business, employee base and care model to serve more partners and patients across the country, we’re also expanding our leadership team. We’re excited to welcome three new leaders to Shields who will bring additional focus on financial and operational rigor; branding, value prop and communications; and partner and business growth, helping us bring better care to more patients, nation-wide. Today we welcome Ashley Koch, CPA as Chief Financial Officer, Crystal Chuckel as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, and Nasser Khan as SVP of Operations.
About Ashley Koch
Ashley has a proven track record of driving financial and operational performance in healthcare. She has experience leading business transformations including financial and organizational turnarounds, merger integrations, and systems implementations.
Ashley has spent her career in private equity or PE-backed companies where she’s been integral in driving value creation and building finance organizations. She joins Shields from Steward Medical Group (SMG) where she was the Chief Financial Officer and a key member of the leadership team, leading a team of over 300 people. She led SMG through a transition from a regional company at ~$350m in revenue to the largest privately-held for-profit medical group in the country at ~$950m in revenue in just three years.
Prior to SMG, she held various roles in financial advisory for Cerberus Capital and FTI Consulting. At Shields, Ashley will focus on building out the finance organization and capabilities while driving key strategic initiatives to ensure the financial success of the company. Ashley lives in the South End with her boyfriend, who has also spent most of his career in private equity.
About Crystal Chuckel
Crystal brings a unique mix of integrated marketing and communications leadership to Shields. She joins from GE Healthcare where she spent nearly 12 years. Most recently as the communications executive for the $6 billion US & Canada region, she was responsible for the Company’s brand, reputation, and helping drive commercial activity throughout the sales funnel.
She led all aspects of internal, external, and brand communications including internal, external and stakeholder relations; country-wide reputation and crisis management; and was on the executive leadership team responsible for the company’s COVID-19 response. She also spent three years at GE Capital where she led a team that re-defined the value proposition, brand, and go-to-market strategy for a newly created finance business.
Crystal will leverage her diverse background to develop an integrated marketing and communications strategy that brings Shield’s value prop and brand to life, using a progressive approach to drive engagement among key stakeholders. Crystal will continue to live in Wisconsin with her husband, Ryan, an avid outdoorsman who runs a small business; her three kids, Helen (10), Finnegan (7), and Nell (4); and her 14-year-old yellow lab, Boone.
About Nasser Khan
Nasser brings an invaluable mix of clinical, business, financial, and operational leadership to Shields. He joins Shields from Biograph, Inc., an early stage, VC-backed start-up in the aging and longevity space where he was part of the founding team.
He began his career in clinical medicine, completing training in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. From there, he transitioned to the consulting space and spent several years at McKinsey & Company as an Engagement Manager in the healthcare practice, serving Fortune 500 companies in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors on growth strategy.
Nasser then held a variety of business leadership roles at DaVita, Inc., most recently as Division Vice President of Hospital Services with P&L oversight for >100 hospital partner sites across the West Coast. He continues to maintain an active medical license in CA and board certification in internal medicine. Nasser will lead partner engagement and drive business growth in the Western part of the U.S., helping to deliver our care model to more patients across the country. Nasser lives in Portland, OR with his wife Abby, Deputy Chief of Cardiology at OHSU, a trio of girls – Elisa (7), Caroline (5), Clara (2), and a rotating menagerie of pets.
